Despite its jokey nickname, the "In Cod We Trust" quarter isn't a mint error at all: starting in 2021 the Mint updated the Washington quarter's obverse lettering with a sleek serif G that has a short, subtle spur, and when that spur wears down or catches the light wrong, "GOD" can read as "COD" on any 2022-and-later American Women quarter. The nickname caught on anyway, turning an ordinary font choice into a minor internet sensation.
