Intriguing History

By 1955, Eisenhower-era America combined suburban prosperity with Cold War anxiety -- the 1957 launch of Sputnik triggered the Space Race, and the civil rights movement was gathering force through the decade, from the 1954 Brown v. Board decision to the Montgomery bus boycott. This 90%-silver Roosevelt dime, rushed into production within weeks of FDR's 1945 death, was struck squarely within this period. This one came from the Denver Mint, which opened in 1906 to strike coin from Rocky Mountain gold and silver.
