1916-S Walking Liberty Half (1916-1947)

Intriguing History

San Francisco's first-year Walking Liberty half dollars in 1916 were struck with the mintmark unusually placed on the obverse rather than the reverse, a design choice quickly abandoned, and the low mintage of this debut issue has made it a genuine key date.
