1878 Morgan Dollar (1878-1921)

Intriguing History

In the Morgan dollar's debut year, the eagle on the reverse was first engraved with eight tail feathers before George Morgan revised it to seven partway through 1878 production, creating one of the most famous and immediately recognizable first-year varieties in all of American coinage.
