Intriguing History

During the Civil War, people hoarded silver, and half dimes vanished from circulation. The Mint started testing other metals. In 1865 it struck a half dime in copper, Judd-420, along with five-cent patterns in nickel and copper. That same year Congress approved a three-cent coin made of copper and nickel. The nickel age was about to begin.
