1823 Large Cents (1793-1857)

Intriguing History

A Philadelphia engraver reused an old 1822 die by punching a new 3 over its final digit, leaving a visible overdate that, combined with the coin's already low 1823 mintage, has made the 1823/2 one of the more challenging dates for large cent collectors to find.
