1796 Draped Bust Half Dollar (1796-1807)

Intriguing History

The half dollar's Draped Bust design debuted in 1796 with fifteen stars on the obverse, one for each state then in the Union, but the design lasted only two years before a bolder heraldic eagle reverse replaced it, making 1796-1797 half dollars among the great rarities of the series.
